Deer Monitoring Strzelecki Rainforest
February 28, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm
We need volunteers! Come exploring the magic fairy forest of the foothills of the Strzelecki ranges. This deep, mysterious private property is located on several hundred acres and is characterised by giant eucalypt forests and deep treefern gullies including large stands of the world’s tallest flowering plant – Eucalyptus regnans (Mountain Ash). In order to protect Gippsland’s environment, we need to see where the deer are, what destruction they are causing and let the wider public know what their impact is.
We need volunteers to help us trek into the sites, set up wildlife cameras and enter what we find into DeerScan.
What: 2.5 hour loop hike. Bring your own lunch, snacks, water and sturdy shoes as it will be damp.
Who: Anyone interested in helping us.
Where: Trafalgar. Exact address will be provided to attendees.
Why: This will help inform local biosecurity authorities about current deer problems and help to build a detailed picture of deer populations for future management.
RSVP is essential to email@example.com
